With only 2 weeks and a few days to go to Bloodstock, it’s time to see what people really like about the line up and what they expect of the bands.

I myself am going to Bloodstock and for those of you who either haven’t heard of it or simply aren’t going, I’ve got two words for you – come on!

This year, Bloodstock is celebrating its 10th Anniversary, and this festival isn’t like Download or Sonisphere, although it may have a few bands from each of those festival, it still remains unique. Why?

Well, Bloodstock is for the more extreme music listeners, but can still maintain that heavy music many metalheads desire. Throughout the years Bloodstock has seen visits from some well known acts, and to name just a few: Children of Bodom, Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Saxon, Edguy, Sonata Artica and many more. It gathers a wide range of international acts, outside of its birthplace in Derby.

The current line up is located here – http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/

Here’s what I think of the line up for 2010;

Awesome, it couldn’t be better. Two of my favourite bands on the line up, plus many other exclusive bands, that’s right, exclusive. Bloodstock has bands that are only playing Bloodstock this year in the UK. Did I mention that most of the other bands are awesome?

You got acts from: Opeth, Meshuggah, Behemoth, Sonata Artica, Children of Bodom, Fear Factory, Devin Townsend, Obituary, Gorgoroth, Twisted Sister, Bloodbath, Edguy, Onslaught, Evile, Suffocation, Gojira, Doro, Korpiklaani and many more throughout the three stages scattered throughout the field.

So all I’ve got to say, is keep an eye out for any bands you may like on the line up for next year, it’s very rare for Bloodstock to disappoint.

As for me, I’ve got my flights booked, my money ready and my gear all packed. I’m waiting for these two weeks to fly in, so I can have the best 5 days of my life, with camping, alcohol and heavy metal!

Rock on! – David Bradley

(A clean bill of health from me, and an exciting read. Good work David! – Ed.)

Hey music lovers/makers!

In this article I’m going to write about my progression in music and how so much of my taste has changed.

Like a lot of people we all heard of the bands Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC and Metallica. At an early age my first band I listened to that had guitars in the music was Guns N’ Roses, my brother was a fan and he was playing the album Appetite for Destruction in its full, so I sat there and listened to it and I couldn’t believe it. It felt like this music was calling for me. Afterwards I got into AC/DC and Metallica. AC/DC’s first ever album I listened to, wasn’t even a studio album, it was a live album, it still rocked either way.

As a teenager, you go through many changes, for me it was mostly changes in music. After listening to AC/DC, Metallica and Guns N’ Roses I wanted something a bit more heavier than Metallica, so I was introduced by a friend to Slipknot, I then went through a massive Slipknot phase along with a few other bands, but Slipknot stuck out the most, I had an obsession with the drummer Joey Jordison.

In late 2008 I started to realise that there much more vast and adventurous music out there. I went through this phase of saying Slipknot are rubbish and all these other bands are. At this point I was listening to metal/rock music for about 5 years. After losing all faith with Slipknot, I then stuck to Metallica and depended on them to get me through. Late 2008 was the year I started going to gigs. Being 16 I then decided I needed something extreme. Slayer was the next step up and a few more death metal bands such as follows: Deicide, Carcass, Katakylsm etc.

By early 2009 I was hearing new bands left, right and centre, but the ones that I really appreciated, my top three were W.A.S.P., Iced Earth and Metallica. As I got to this point, I was content…or was I? Late 2009 was the biggest change in music for me ever, I started listening to more alternative bands, such as: Meshuggah, Tool, Dream Theater etc. A progressive side to music, and may I just add that I didn’t find them myself, suggestions from a lot of people is what pushed me to check these bands out and give them a listen and a positive effect came from every band suggested.

Here in 2010, I’m more open minded, free to discussion about music, I like to learn new things about artists and I’m very opinionated. I listen to three main genres Metal, Ambient and Electronic music and my three top bands at the moment are: Meshuggah, Devin Townsend and Godflesh, but I’m sure that will all change in time. Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope to have some awesome discussions with you all in the future of this site.

’till then take care!

- David Bradley.
